Pregnancy Care
Antenatal care is provided from the AKMD Medical Centre clinic and focuses on emotional and practical support; wellbeing checks for you and baby; education; referrals for blood tests and ultrasounds as needed.
I can commence your care as early in pregnancy as you wish and continue that care throughout your pregnancy. No referral from your GP is needed. I work within the principles of the National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and have referral processes in place should medical input be indicated in your pregnancy. I am able to refer you to your local catchment hospital for the birth of your baby. Telehealth appointments are available for existing clients if you are unable to attend the clinic due to illness.
You may also wish to consider combined Midwife + GP Obstetrician care.
Postnatal Care
I am available for postnatal appointments in your home to complement and supplement the support of the hospital's visiting midwifery service - I provide care up until 6 weeks post birth. My services are tailored to your needs and aim to assist you in the transition to parenthood. Home visits may include breastfeeding support; blood pressure monitoring; assessing healing from suturing; general recovery; baby checks; referrals to GP, paediatricians, physiotherapists and lactation consultants if required.
Postnatal home visits are bulk-billed directly to Medicare.
As an endorsed midwife, I am able to provide pathology and radiology request forms and prescribe medications within my scope of practice.
Midwife + GP Obstetrician Care
I work closely with Dr Ola Malomo at AKMD for women planning to birth at Armadale Hospital. We provide a combined "Endorsed Midwife + GP Own" model of care.
What does this look like?
You are booked to Armadale Hospital for your birth either as a public or private patient with Dr Malomo as your GP Obstetrician.
During your pregnancy, your appointments will be provided by both Dr Malomo and myself at AKMD Medical Centre. Working in the community allows us to provide appointment lengths to suit your needs and you will receive both medical and midwifery support as needed.
When you go into labour, you will be supported by the hospital midwives and Dr Malomo will be on call for consultation and to provide care as required. He will aim to be there at the birth - and if you need a doctor during your labour, he will attend. There is no out-of-pocket expense for your birth, it is covered under Medicare just as it would be if you were to be receiving your pregnancy care through the regular hospital Antenatal Clinic.
After the birth, you will have your initial care provided on the postnatal ward and your Day 3 and Day 5 postnatal home visits will be provided by the hospital midwives. After this time, I can take over care to provide you with home visits up to 6 weeks. See postnatal care above.
Having your care provided by a known Midwife + GP Obstetrician can be a lovely, personalised way to receive maternity care.
